Will we get a new (co-)record holder?

25/02/2026

On Saturday, we will open the new Flemish cycling season during Omloop het Nieuwsblad. The provisional start list features many big names. Van der Breggen and Kopecky can respectively break and equal the record if they manage to beat Vollering, Balsamo and Niewiadoma‑Phinney.

In the women’s race, attention goes to the strong squad of Team SD Worx - Protime. Van der Breggen can become sole record holder with a third victory, while Kopecky may be called co-record holder with another success. With Bredewold and Wiebes, the team has several strong cards. The opposition comes notably from the camp of FDJ United - Suez with Vollering and from Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto with Backstedt, Niewiadoma-Phinney, Consonni, and former winner Cromwell.

Last year’s winner, Claes, is also heading back to Ghent. This year, she will be representing Fenix-Premier Tech. Lidl-Trek is counting on the duo Balsamo - Van Anrooij, while Ferguson and Lippert join forces at Movistar Team. Bossuyt (AG Insurance - Soudal Team), Paternoster (Liv-AlUla-Jayco), Kerbaol (EF Education - Oatly), and De Jong (Human Powered Health) also have Omloop het Nieuwsblad on their schedule.
