Zdenek Stybar won Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2019 after an impressive attack in the last 3 kilometers.
"Just after the Muur, Tom Steels said to me: “we have three guys behind you, but you’re our leader now, you can do this”. So, I did my best to make that happen. My team mates helped me, I really like this spirit in our team. The legs are of course the most important, but I like how we support each other: sometimes I work for them, sometimes they help me."
"I noticed that Wellens wasn’t really turning around with us in the final kilometers, so I was expecting that he would attack. I thought he would go earlier, because it was slightly uphill, but he waited. I myself was waiting for his attack. He was going at the other side of the road when there was some kind of split. I was hoping that Greg Van Avermaet would try to close the gap. Lutsenko also reacted immediately. On that moment I decided to go. It seemed like a good moment."
"Before that, I was just hoping for a sprint, I was quite confident with all the corners there that I could win the sprint. But I had to go for this opportunity: I didn’t think, I just went all out. Greg was also very strong today. I don’t think I was better or smarter than him, I just had better luck. Only in the last corner before the finish line, I was sure that I would win. It’s 14 years ago that this team (Quick-Step) could win this race. So I’m really proud I could win for the team. And now we have to hope and believe we can continue and win the other important races."
