No Peter Sagan in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, other big names do confirm

15 January 2018

Finally, the new cycling season kicked off last weekend in Australia. But while some riders are testing their legs for the first time in the Australian heat, others are fully preparing for the spring classics. Some big names in the world of cycling, have confirmed their programme and will be present in the season opener on Flemish roads on Fabruary 24th: Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. May be expected: twofold winner Greg van Avermaet, Jasper Stuyven, Michael Matthews, Arnaud Démare, Fernando Gaviria and Ronde van Vlaanderen winner Philippe Gilbert.

But don't go looking for the rainbow jersey on your screen. Peter Sagan released his schedule and won't be there during opening weekend. After racing in Australia, he's making some time for his wife and his new born baby Marlon. No chance of taking revenge for the Slovakian, who lost two years in a row to Olympic Champion Greg van Avermaet. The first time Sagan will be on the bike again in an official race, will be on March 3rd in Strade Bianche (Italy).
