Omloop Het Nieuwsblad promises nostalgic ride between Ghent and Ninove

6 December 2017

In the city of Ninove the new track of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2018 has been presented. From the city of Ghent the peloton will ride towards a nostalgic finale, which is identic to the very last Ronde van Vlaanderen of 2011 with arrival in Ninove. Eye-catchers of this 73rd edition for Elite Women will be the duo Muur van Geraardsbergen and Bosberg in the final 20km.

Not only for Elite Men but also for Elite Women, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday February 24th is the first big race of the new season. In the same setting as the men, the ladies will start their Omloop, being organised since 2006, in Ghent. In total they will cover 122,2km and are presented with 8 climbs ands 3 cobbled sections. The finale 60km is identical to the men's route.

The riders get the old Ronde van Vlaanderen route on their plate as well. Consecutively, they will pass by on Berendries, Valkenberg, Tenbosse, Muur van Geraardsbergen and Bosberg before heading to the finish in Ninove. There we will find out who'll become the successor of the the Dutch Lucinda Brand.

"The final 60km are identical to the final Ronde van Vlaanderen with arrival in Ninove", says Wim van Herreweghe of Flanders Classics. "This finale, with exactly the same sequence of climbs, lies fresh in the memory of many riders and cycling fans. The finish line being painted at exactly the same place as seven years ago, couldn't be more symbolic."
